Client | Breitling
Project | Watch box rPET
Material | Materials made from 100% recycled PET
Special features | The case consists exclusively of recycled materials. The size was reduced to a minimum through creative solutions

Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier in the Bernese Jura. Since then, Breitling has been one of the most popular luxury watch manufacturers in the world.
For both Breitling and Dahlinger, this was a very special project. The client’s wish was to create a case made exclusively from recycled PET. In this way, the cradle-to-cradle principle, i.e. an uninterrupted cycle of recyclable materials, could be used perfectly to break new, more sustainable ground.

This was also a particularly exciting project for us, as we broke many new ground. The challenge was to get both the base body and the various cover fabrics, padding and snaps from the same material to achieve a mono-materiality. With the successful implementation, the case is now made of 100% rPET and can therefore also be recycled without any problems – if this beautiful case should ever be thrown away.

In addition, the functionality of the watch case is particularly noteworthy. This can be unfolded so that it can be stored flat. The warranty card is located in a reduced form in the top of the case.

We have come up with a special functionality for the watch roll. With its variable design, the watch roll can also be used as a travel case when unrolled.

In 2021, Breitling received the „Efficient Solution Label“ award for this case, which is given by the „Solar Impulse“ foundation for solutions that have a positive impact on the environment and the economy.
We at Dahlinger had great fun with the project. We are happy to use our expertise and specific know-how to explore new, innovative paths together with our customers. Many thanks to the entire Breitling team for the exciting and trusting collaboration.
