PET is the abbreviation for „polyethylene terephthalate“. The transparent, unbreakable and lightweight plastic is very recyclable. One speaks of rPET when the plastic consists entirely or partly of recyclate or old plastic.

Compared to conventional PET, rPET is much more sustainable and resource-efficient in production. This is mainly because significantly less oil has to be processed into polymers. In addition, rPET can be recycled without loss of raw materials and also causes fewer emissions in the recycling process.
The recycling process of each used PET packaging begins at the sorting point. All the parts from different collection systems come together here. Before they are sent for recycling, they are sorted according to their material composition. There are different mechanical and chemical processes to recycle PET and produce high-quality rPET from it.
After bundling, the PET material is freed from external contamination and shredded into flakes. These flakes are then thoroughly cleaned. They are then processed into granulate. This granulate can then be used to make a wide variety of products.

We have already used the material in a number of products, such as a watch case for Breitling, which was made entirely from rPET, or in the inlay for the series EDGE 138.
